Pancakes and Booze was a fun experience and something I did not anticipate doing. This was the first noncharitable event I’d attended as a business. I was so nervous to paint live for the first time. Spending the week prior brainstorming about what I would paint and how I was going to set up my space? The anticipation was high.
On the day of the event I arrived at the location a couple of hours ahead to set up. I pull up to a place I’ve never been before. The “Stanely Market Place”, a brand new structure in the city I know so well. It was a pleasant surprise! Such a cute place with all the restaurants and little shops. As I entered I was approached by a beautiful hostess from a restaurant. The hostess offered to walk me down to where the art show was being set up. She was so happy to see the local artists arriving to set up for the show. Her good energy helped me shake off the nerves and a bonus! I did get a little lost finding my way down the hall she directed me to. Once I found the entrance I was greeted by a pleasant and professional young man. All I could think was “Alright, I made it. The vibes are feeling good and I feel comfortable.” The setup was much easier than anticipated, thank goodness.
As an art lover; looking around at the filled up walls was exhilarating for me! Art takes me to places and makes me feel things I cannot explain with words. It felt as if I belonged, just there to fellowship and vibe with my people. Like-minded beings who dream and live in creativity. It gave me the nostalgic feeling of art school where I finally felt like one of the artists and not just an “artist”.
There was a line to get into Pancakes and Booze. Now I'm happy yet I went into my shy mode. YES, I have a shy side! Some people find that hard to believe, however, I can be withdrawn and soft-spoken in new spaces. Thankfully my friends and sister were there with me so the shyness didn’t last long 😂. I met some pretty nice people. So many people came out to enjoy an evening of art, pancakes, and booze. I had a drink was focused on painting. Painting live in public was better than I anticipated and very therapeutic.
Pancakes and Booze was an awesome event and I’m happy to have been a part of it. A special shoutout to my sister Brianna for contributing her creativity, thank you to my friends Shanice and Doucette for coming and always supporting Art By Udemè. Thank you to my supporters Edikan and Fidel for coming out to see my work in real life. Lastly, thank you to the creators of Pancakes and Booze Art Show, the artist I bonded with, new supporters.
💜,
Udemé
